Many people during their compulsory National Youth service don't usually ask themselves the question "What next After Service". For many, they know what they want and what to do but for most people they don't have any concrete idea of what they want or even what they want to do.
But now, service year is over. For many, the reality will face them right in the face🙄, NO MORE ALLAWEE (19,800 stipends). As small as this money is, it will become gold to many who after some months of completing service could not find a job.
Depression starts to set in if some of your mates have gotten employed and you could not. The pressures begin to mount as your parent will not want to foot your bills anymore. And even as a right thinking individuals, one would not want to continue asking for stipends from parents.
Now that service is over, what should you do.
1. Write your Professional CV/Résumé: You need to start preparing your CV/Resume in preparation for job applications. Your CV should not be more than 1 or 2 pages and should contain only the relevant of informations. Don't put unnecessary stories or information on your CV. To get help with professional C.V, you can contact Gifted Hands Analyst and you also click the link to download a template you can follow.
2. Start Applying for Jobs online: For those who don't want to further their education immediately after service, the next thing to do is to start applying for Jobs online. Apply to as many jobs as possible (Don't have the believe that only those that have connections are being employed, it is not true). You can register on jobs and opportunities website like Solutionwheels blog, Opportunitiesforafricans, Jobberman, OpportunityDesk and many more.
3. Start Studying GMAT Questions: For those that don't like mathematics, I think this is the best time you need to start developing interest in calculations as most jobs now require that all applicants write their assessment test which is majorly GMAT question format. From experience, the difference between those that got employment in most of the multinational company and the other people is just "AIDING THE ASSESSMENT". If you can pass most employment assessment then you won't have problem getting jobs. You can get idea about Dragnet (Download Dragnet Past Question Here) and Workforce assessment (Download Workforce Past Question Here) test format for preparation.
4. Learn Important Soft Skills: it is very important to know that not everyone will be employed. The earlier the reality the better it is. Most jobs now require only First class and Second class upper graduates with very few giving chances to those with Second class lower. With this, we should see that we need to equip ourselves with some soft skills that will stand us out and can also help with being a business owner. Example of this skills includes: Data analysis, data analytics, Microsoft office, web design, web development, graphic design, autocad design and many others.
5. Learn a Skill: Now that service is over, I will advice that we learn a skill like Tailoring and catering. Tailoring and catering is now too common, my advice is that most people should learn skill in I.T. like web development, graphic design, AutoCAD design, web design and other, with this skills you may not even need to start looking for jobs as you can get jobs online that will be fetching you up to $1,500 (around 500,000 naira) monthly. With this skills, you can work on Freelancing sites like Fiverr, Upwork, and others.
For those who are still in service or just going for service, I think there are things you should know already.
