COMMISSIONED FOR GREATNESS
Text: Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I sanctified you, I ordained you a prophet to the nations.
When we talk about commissioned for greatness, what comes to our mind? What do we understand when we hear "we have been commissioned"?
According to the text, another word we can use for ordained is commissioned or assigned and in clear terms we can say " we have been commissioned or assigned as a prophet to the nation".
In our world today, we are all prophets in the different department varying from spiritual offices like pastor and ministers to secular office like public or private sectors yet those offices are the pulpit to maximize the potentials of God in us.
As a believer, we are in a world system where secularism mixed with spirituality, men exchanging their divine destinies for fame that will not stand the test of time is the new normal, where doctrine of Christ is polluted with unfounded truths yet God is telling someone today that he/she has been commissioned for greatness.
I strongly believe there are men and women who will chart a new course for our nation.
Brothers like Gideon, a mighty man of valor whose present state contradicts their future reality, whose background seemingly has little or no significance in the society yet a man like that will arise this day in every home. (Judges 6:15-18, 8:18)
Women who will not only travail during childbirth but also in the place of prayer like Deborah will rise and men will confidently trust in their counsel, prayers and instructions because they have yielded to the one who commissioned them to be useful as a wife, a prophetess and a judge in their generation. (Judgea 4:4-16.)
Sons like Joseph who will stand for purity a and flee from every satanic proposal in form of youthful lust, lack of self control, anger, unforgiving spirit etc to get to their destined place of greatness. In going far, weights needs to be shed. Some weights might look important but might not be necessary. Family is important in the life of every individual but because Joseph is destined for greatness, he needed to be relocated and repositioned continuously till he got to where God's plan and purpose for his life could materialise.
Daughters like Esther who will also hold tight to her purity because it is a criteria to be fit for the King's palace not knowing her decision and preparation will be what will save her and her tribe in a foreign land. (Esther 4:13-14, 8:1-17)
As people commissioned for greatness, we should know preparation always precede greatness. No man can become great only by wishing to be great, the man needs to know who they are, where he has been called and prepare to be fit for the position.
Our identity is in Jesus Christ and as He is so are we in this world. He said "...greater works shall ye do", if Christ who is the overall example said we will do greater works, how great is that work?.
In conclusion, remember in Him we can do all things but without Him we can do nothing. Men who did exploits that we see as templates are men who partnered with divinity. If indeed we have been commisioned, our greatness is tied to the one who commissioned us. Shalom
